Description
Born in France in 1948, François-Xavier Marange moved in Montreal in 1982. He learned the art of etching at the Leblanc, Lacourière-Frélaut and Maeght studios in Paris. He has worked with renowned artists such as Friedlander, Lam, Miró, Tàpies, Zao Wou-Ki and many others. Always keen to pass on what he has learned, Marange prepared the drawings and supervised the construction of a large press for Atelier Circulaire of Montreal.
The artist has seen his work presented in solo exhibitions in Montreal, Quebec City, Ottawa, Vienna, Paris and Majorca, and has taken part in more than fifty group exhibitions including shows at Gallery Libéral Bruant (2005), the Toronto International Art Fair (2005) and the Île-de-France International Engraving Biennial (2001). His work can be found in several public and private collections in Canada. François-Xavier Marange died the 8 of October 2012.
